U.S. House of Representatives, IL-10th Candidate
David J. Kalbfleisch, a Green Party candidate for U.S. House of Representatives, IL-10th, came to our monthly meeting on July 5th. He spoke to us about his experiences as an Iraq War veteran, and about his reasons for choosing to run for U.S. Representative in District 10.
Here is a summary of his priorities as he describes them on his campaign website (http://www.electdave.org):
- The immediate and unconditional withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq. (more)
- Comprehensive election reform to promote real democracy in our nation. (more)
- "Single-payer" universal public health care. (more)
- Local control of education and repealing No Child Left Behind. (more)
- Repealing the Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act of 2006, and other affronts to the Constitution and founding principles of our legal system. (more)
- Greatly strengthening "Sunshine Laws" to develop a transparent government that citizens can hold accountable. (more)
- An end to "corporate personhood" and corporate welfare. (more)
- A national focus on sustainable resources and energy efficiency. (more)
- Mike Gravel's National Initiative for Democracy to give legislative powers directly to the people. (more)
One way we can help Dave with his candidacy is to support him at public events, especially those in the Palatine area.
But as Dave puts it, "The best way people can help me is by visiting the volunteer page and signing up! Attending events is just one thing I hope people will do. Telling people about me, and sending friends a family the link to my website, is a very simple way to help me."
We can also help Dave with campaign contributions and by buying and wearing "Dave Gear".
I am adding some of Dave's events to our event calendar --- please take a few moments to see what's coming up.
