Vote For Howie Hawkins?
Yesterday evening, I received a call from Jerry Kann (http://kannforpresident.net/). He wanted to discuss Howie Hawkins run to be nominated in the Illinois Green Party Primary on February 5.
Howie Hawkins is running as a stand-in candidate for Ralph Nader, so a vote for Hawkins is really a vote for Nader. There is a transcript of an interview Nader gave Amy Goodman just yesterday evening at http://www.draftnader.org/. If you get Free Speech TV, I'm sure they'll be showing the interview on repeats of "Democracy Now!" over the next week.
Back to Jerry Kann's phone call. He basically had three reasons for us to vote for Nader:
- It's the right thing to do, after the Green Party distanced itself from him in 2004;
- He is the candidate with the most name-recognition, and that would lend the party greater legitimacy;
- He has a proven record of successfully taking on the corporate interests currently in power
Good arguments. I am personally re-thinking my choice for presidential candidate over the weekend.
In the meantime, there is more information about Ralph Nader's run at: http://www.naderexplore08.org/
